RE. WHERE HAVE PATONG'S BEACH DOGS GONE THIS "HOLIDAY SEASON"? This was the subject of a full page investigation by the Phuket News 3 weeks ago. SDF announced it was ceasing holding sterilization clinics in Patong. The Or Bor Tor (Local council) were taking dogs that SDF had sterilized and returned to beach and other locations. They stated that they were removing all the beach dogs and putting in the Government dog pound. Local people went in search of the dogs and told us they were not there. ...

And At Breakfast This Morning…
26th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

In my quest to change so many of the not-so-good habits of my cats (due to my own ignorance, lack of commitment and persistence in the past years), I remind myself that even Dr Susanna took 3 years to convert her most challenging cat from kibble to home-cooked. So, whatever “achievement” I can get in less than 3 years is a cause for celebration already. Armed with that “consolation”, I plod on… So, it’s only been barely a week of introducing so many changes, e...

MARK - CAN YOU SPONSOR HIS TWILIGHT YEARS!
26th Dec 2011, by Soi Dog Foundation

MARK - YOU CAN SPONSOR HIS TWILIGHT YEARS! Mark is an old dog who arrived at Soi Dog in February, 2011. He had wounds on his legs that were so bad he couldn't walk. His gums were very yellow from a lifetime of malnutirition & he was also suffering from septicemia & blood parasite. Mark also has many wart like growths on his face & body. When he first arrived he was a bit grumpy, but he's relaxed now & we've discovered he really likes people & has a very sweet nature. However, if anyone tries...

ATTENTION GERMAN (AND EU) SOIDOG SUPPORTERS! EASY SOI DOG ADOPTION My name is Masud. Before I was called TukTuk, because I had been found under such a vehicle in Thailand. I am a former Thai street dog, rescued by SOIDOG, castrated, microchipped, vaccinated and about 4-5 years old. I have been living in a foster family in Hamburg for 9 months now, who trained me nothing but great things: I speak now fluently German, know "sit" and "down", I'm very careful with everything I do, I am very nic...

Vegans Explain Why They Eat Meat Again
25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

I like to provide views from both sides of the coin on issues that we raise, so here’s one that is quite objective: Source: http://www.care2.com/causes/fo rmer-vegans-explain-why-they-eat-meat.html I suppose this is why I’ve never promoted vegetarianism PER SE, rather, I urge readers to EAT LESS MEAT. Even in my latest book, “Do We Have a Choice?”, I ask that we consider eating less meat, even if it’s just once a week. I fully understand that not everyone can becom...

Yay! They Ate My Food!
25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

So, I blended the “muck” I cooked up for Bobby and the cats, and I was going to give it to them for breakfast tomorrow, but Tiger came by as I was halfway blending the food. Oh, it’s Christmas….a little bit of supper won’t hurt, I thought. And I was also eager to try out my new food even though I know the cats aren’t supposed to be hungry yet. Never mind…here goes nothing…  The blender kept stopping – I think the blade isn’t right for...

When A Cat Doesn’t Like Its Litter…(LOL!!)
25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

Maneki’s owner and I talk about cat issues often, and the subject of cat litter came up. So what cat litter do you use? And which type actually works for your cat(s)? Maneki’s owner couldn’t resist sending me a photo of her friend’s cat, Yin (full name: Lady Faye Yin) who simply refused to touch pine litter. I’ll let Maneki tell the story. It’s always better and more funny from the first person! I laughed, too, when I read your woes about introducing change to...

Updates On The Siberian Husky
25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

My post on the lady who wanted to throw out her 2 year-old Siberian Husky to the streets caught many readers’ attention and thanks to Lee, who wrote to say her friend is looking for a Siberian Husky (but not from a breeder), arrangements have been made now, and we hope the Husky will go to Lee’s friend by Tuesday. Yesterday, I managed to contact the Chinese-speaking lady, Ah Yoke, and Lee’s friend got hold of the owner’s mother’s phone number, but tried as she did, ...

My Home-Cooked Meal For Bobby And The Cats
25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

I thought I should try my hands at home-cooking for Bobby and the cats now that we have read so much literature on it, and many have shared their time-tested recipes. This is what I used for today: Meat: Chicken carcass Chicken liver Some mutton and beef that a friend gave me (from her catfood) Chicken breastmeat with skin Veggies: Carrot Pumpkin Potato (small amounts) Parsley  The meat stuff.  Veggies to be added in later. I remember Dr Susanna saying it’s 95% protein and 5% veggies f...

Another Tabby?
25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

This morning, we heard Tiger complaining in Mac’s place at the back of the house…  What’s wrong, Tiger?  Oh, there’s a visitor in the back alley…  It’s a tabby and wears a blue collar.  A blue collar with a bell, just like Tab’s red collar with a bell. My husband thought maybe it’s Tabs’ sibling or parent coming to look for her. But we couldn’t risk taking Tabs out, especially when she has just been spayed.  This time, Tiger w...
