Dog's Island Shelter 28th Apr 2012, by Soi Dog Foundation
The Bangkok floods have now disappeared and we hope for no reoccurrence this year.
Prior to the floods a woman named Khun Ruen operated a shelter in this area relying on the generosity
of the community.
Unfortunately the shelter was destroyed by the floods and Khun Ruen's dogs were moved to the rescue centre at WFFT. Soi Dog has committed to rebuild the Khun Ruen shelter.
Will you help to keep fulfilling her promise to the dogs?
Please consider helping Khun Ruen by donating today at:

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/26/medical-s ubsidy-for-caty-koo-swee-pors/
Koo informed me last night that Caty is now home and recovering well.
We will Caty a full recovery in no time, and may she be fit and healthy soon.
A lovely home with DT awaits Caty.
Once a street cat, once with a badly infected eye and ovarian cysts which nobody would have known about, could have died on the streets had the cysts burst, but now, off to a new home on a new lease of life.
Thank you, Koo and thank yo...

Those Who Look After Bobby 28th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
As you all know, Bobby has looked after every single kitten I brought back, and as I was doing a check-list the other day, 48 animals have actually been fostered in our home (mostly kittens) in these 3 years.
So, now that Bobby is old and grey, who looks after him?
Cow, being the eldest (or so we think) is always near. Cow has always taken it upon himself to be the “big brother” of the feline clan.
Nowadays, Bobby feels much better (after all regular acupuncture sessions), so h...

Why We Are A No-Kill Medical Fund 28th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/27/sweethear t-is-this-what-you-would-have-wanted-a-reflection- on-euthanasia/
A reader seems very upset (please see comments in post above) and she is of the opinion that we are condemning people who opt for euthanasia for their pets or rescues and that we are saying that it is wrong.
Let me clarify here, and this is our official stand, that we are promoting no-kill in animal welfare but we are NOT condemning euthanasia nor saying that it is wrong.
Promotin...

Updates On The Mother-Dog And Puppies (Kelly Tan’s) 27th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/22/what-went -wrong-for-the-7-puppies-and-their-mother/
The mother-dog whom two vets rejected, has been nursed back to health by the caregiver, Kelly Tan. She handfed the dog Aloe Vera and that seemed to help a lot. According to our contact in Ipoh, Ms Lee, the mother-dog is now fine.
The surviving puppies are all fine as well.
All in all, they only lost one puppy from that mysterious outbreak (suspected to be distemper). The sickly puppies were all put on d...

All’s Well For The Two Cruelty Cases (Teresa Chian’s) 27th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/27/help-need ed-for-two-cruelty-cases-teresa-chians/
Teresa called this afternoon to say she has already rehomed Case 2, and Case 1 has been taken from the owner, and is now under treatment at the vet’s.
We’ve already got PAWS on standby to take in Case 1 should Teresa fail to find an adopter, and we have pledged our medical subsidy for the dog.
Case 1 has bad wounds and the wounds has maggots too.
We hope the dog will recover well, with treatmen...

Baloo Bluey Is Not Well (Andy Lew’s) 27th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Two days ago, Andy Lew called to say Baloo did not look well and he had already scheduled an appointment for her.
Yesterday morning, he brought Baloo to see the vet and the vet did not quite find anything wrong. Maybe it was just a cold. So Baloo was given antibiotics (Clavomox) and Vetri DMG.
Just now, Andy called to say Baloo had not eaten today but is still alert.
I’ve given Andy the phone contact of the vet in PJ with the call-back service, just in case. I’ve also suggested that ...

And There’s Silvervine Powder As Well…. 27th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Bernice bought my cats a treat…
A Daiso product
It comes in sachets.
Tabs went absolutely crazy over it!
Indy wanted to know what the commotion was all about.
Sniff, Cleo.
Cleo, our very own Bastet Queen, also “let her hair down” and went completely gaga. You’d never catch her going gaga over anything, not even the P-Lows.
Bunny?
I sprinkled some on the cushion, and it was non-stop!
Everyone went crazy over it and we had like hal...

Dogs Can Detect Cancer With High Accuracy Levels 27th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
A friend sent me this link:
http://www.yourhealth.com.sg/content/dog-can -detect-cancer-high-accuracy-levels
He suggested that we work with dog trainers to train street dogs to do this, then, to put it bluntly, there would be some “use” for these dogs, and the shelters might not have to have them euthanised.
Of course it is a good idea, but do we have such experts in our country?
If you know of any, it would be good to share.
Maybe we can propose it to the shelters.

Mr G’s Owner Comes A-Knocking…. 27th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
My doorbell rang just now and a Malay lady was at my gate. She was looking for her cat, “Ten” and wonders if Ten had come into my house. She said she lives behind my house.
Well, what do you know, she is Mr G’s owner!
And here’s Mr G’s real name – “Jelly”, and guess how old he is….
Mr G a.k.a. Jelly is only 5 years old!!
This means Cow, Bunny, Pole and Tiger are older! Maybe Cleo is also older.
“Ten” is Ginrella. He had gone missi...

“Sweetheart, Is This What You Would Have Wanted?” – A Reflection On Euthanasia 27th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/26/can-we-ne uter-our-way-out-of-killing/
Remember yesterday’s article which I posted (link above) about rehoming being more important than neutering and urging shelters to be no-kill ones?
I sent the article to two shelter managers and I did not receive a straight-off “No” from them. Rather, one replied saying their shelter is working towards no-kill. The other said theirs would reflect on the contents of the article.
When it comes to the ...
