Updates On 2nd May 2012
2nd May 2012, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

"Rodents? Leave them to us," said Munchkins, the reticulated python who was in the middle of digesting his lunch. The town council called in their pest control who safely contained Munchkins and handed him over to us- along with his lunch- a huge rat who was regurgitated. The eternally hungry rescue officers 'Ta Pao-ed' his lunch and delivered it after the python was released. Their appetite, sad to say, was 'released' too.

“Janganlah Menipu”
2nd May 2012, by AnimalCare

It has been brought to my attention that two rescuers (let’s call them No.1 and No.2) are planning to get someone else to put in some claims on behalf of them because they do not wish to reveal their names to us. Hmm…but why? What is wrong with revealing their names?  Unless they are running some clandestine operation which cannot see the light of day? And do I know these two persons? Well, I am, unfortunately, acquainted with No.1. She has claimed a number of cases from us previous...

Baggy Begins Her 3rd Day With My Cats
2nd May 2012, by AnimalCare

Last night, I let Baggy sleep in her Holey Box beside me as I slept on the bench in the room. This morning, I found she had made herself a little sanctuary in the room, surrounded by two boxes. It was cute. Sorry my camera battery ran out on me, so no photo. I thought I should take her out to the garden for a stretch…    Tabs wants to be friends.  Cleo is not antagonistic.    A little game of hide-and-seek, to break the ice?  The elders watch from a distance.   ...

Sometimes We Need Closure
2nd May 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/03/18/lost-cat- please-help-to-look-out-for-it-jay-lams/ Jay wrote yesterday to say he has finally found out what happened to Ozee: Found out from one of my neighbours. It’s most unfortunate that Ozee was run over by a motorcycle late one night about a month ago. Apparently the rider was trying to avoid a car, and so hit my cat. The neighbour came out because of the noise of the rider being thrown off his bike, and buried Ozee in his front  garden. It e...

Dog Seller?
2nd May 2012, by AnimalCare

I received this a few days ago: Message: Greetings, I am currently working at a pet store in KL. Recently our area is being occupied by a stray female dog and her two pups. The two pups are at the back of our store and the mother would go off (so far to the front of the store)and come back to keep an eye on her babies. Yesterday one of the pup fell into a deep drain and my colleague rescued her. My boss is kind and allows us to feed these animals that is as far as he will go. But my heart goes o...

Yes, Animals Do Grieve For Their Lost Companions (a Sharing), And The Universe Has A Way Of Making Things Happen
2nd May 2012, by AnimalCare

Here’s a sharing from one of our readers: Hello Dr. Chan, Hope that you, your family and furkids are in the pinkest of health (although I’ve read that Indy is not in his element at the moment). I’m writing in to share about what had happened since the disappearance of my cat Bobby… (sad to acknowledge) the passing of Pretty. A few weeks after Bobby’s disappearance, Pretty passed on. She refused to eat (only drinks and nibbles a bit when she feels like it) and slowly...

Where Was The Cat During Those “lost” Hours? (a Sharing)
2nd May 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/24/this-is-a lmost-unbelievable/ In response to my post above on the case where a trainee vet opened up a male cat to be SPAYED without first checking if he was male or female just because the rescuer mistakenly thought and said the cat was female, and how the vet said, “Why did you tell me it was a female?” in defence, a reader shared her story below. By the way the poor male cat is fine now. But we think this unfortunate mistake could have been...

A Bad Eye, But She Is Still Wanted (Dani Irwan’s Story)
2nd May 2012, by AnimalCare

From: Dani Irwan Message: Hi there Dr Chan. I am in great need of your help, advice & opinion regarding the matter of a stray kitten that I’m currently fostering together with her sibling & mommy cat. Please bear with me as my story is quite a long one… It goes like this. The mama cat is a stray that frequently comes to my house begging for food, so I’ve been feeding her for about a month or so. When I first met her, she was already pregnant. Being a stray, this mama ca...

Save The Hayden Law – Let’s Make It Official
2nd May 2012, by Best Friends Animal Society

As detailed in previous blog posts, the Hayden Law, California’s exemplary animal shelter reform and access legislation that was passed in 1998, has been in danger of being gutted by Governor Jerry Brown through the budget process. His efforts to strip the Hayden Law of its lifesaving muscle via the budget, however, were rejected unanimously by both the California State Assembly and Senate Budget Subcommittees thanks largely to the groundswell of opposition to the measure registered by you thr...

Baggy’s 2nd Day
1st May 2012, by AnimalCare

We’ll start off this post with a related Cleo story first…. Right after I wrote the previous post on Baggy, I had to get ready the house for the interview. I did a headcount and one cat was missing – Cleo! I searched all over Bunny’s Place and really, she was gone…. I went out to the road, look into the drains, up the roofs, she was no where to be found. This was really, really bad timing because the interviewers would be coming soon. Then, I made another thorough s...

From Yen Chian: Hi Dr Chan, Few days back, a family come over to see the kitten. They have just lost their cat a few days back and have adopted a new one and would love to add a new one. The kitten they just adopted was a male so I told them that they must spay etc. After I mention the adoption fee which is Rm 50. Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/27/alls-well -for-the-two-cruelty-cases-teresa-chians/ From Teresa: Dear Kah Yein, The first person who adopted Lotus, the 8-month German Shepherd whom I found tied to a pole at the children’s playground, returned him after a day. Said she is not ready to handle a high-energy dog like him. So I sent Lotus to the vet’s for neutering, vacc and deworm and a thorough check-up before rehoming him again.
