Thanks for Your Support for WORLD ANIMAL DAY 2014!

SPCA and AVA have come together to advocate responsible pet ownership, via this event platform. The two-day event, which took place on 27 and 28 September 2014 at the United Square Shopping Mall, was centred on the theme “Caring for Your Pet”. We aimed to drive home (pun intended) the message that responsible pet ownership ultimately starts at, and revolves around, the home.

To prove this point, an apartment setting was created, taking up half the event venue, in which popular pets (dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits) were featured, along with their various, respective needs. Instead of relying on mere poster panels or information booklets, experiential learning has been emphasized by means of a walk-through ‘showroom’ enticing the visitor to explore the learning zones therein. Pet owners could thus better appreciate how their animal companions’ daily lifestyles can be improved.

This more novel approach towards educating the visitors was also incentivised by a fun goodie bag to be had once participants successfully completed an activity sheet.

We also managed to find new homes for 20 animals! Adopting families ready for the lifelong commitment also became acquainted with their animal companion(s) at the event, as a few cats, guinea pigs and rabbits and many (11!) hamsters got adopted. To make each successful adoption a little more special and memorable, Hill’s Science Diet goody bags were provided too.

Visitors also had a field day, or two, of learning, enrichment and – simply – sheer fun and enjoyment through participating in the stage activities, educational talks, photo booths and other fringe activities specially lined up.

We also found it timely to unveil SPCA’s all-new 2015 merchandise, which entailed new T-shirt designs as well as our 2015 calendars and diaries. All the 2015 calendars have been fully sold at the event!

Special shout-outs go out to our kind and generous sponsors, and supporters like Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and also our many, trusty SPCA Volunteers. We also thank our collaborator, AVA, for making this event a reality with us.

Our kudos, too, to our bubbly stage speakers and stage show performers. The event would not have seen the light of day without your invaluable antics, showmanship and, most of all, sporting spirit and dedication to the animal welfare cause.

THANKS, everyone, for making this event possible and a great success!
