HELP MACAQUES: DONT FEED THEM!

Singapores charismatic macaques are a big hit with the public, who often cannot resist feeding them potato chips, popcorn and other snacks. But, did you know that feeding them causes a lot more harm than good? Feeding macaques:

- Causes rapid and unnatural growth of the macaque population.

- Results in the macaques being attracted to residential areas and areas popular with visitors.

- Causes the macaques to lose their natural fear of humans and vehicles and makes them aggressive towards humans.

- Results in macaques losing their foraging skills in the wild, which is harmful in the long-term.

- Increases the potential for disease transmission between humans and macaques.

Wild macaques spend a huge portion of their time foraging for their natural food sources. However, once they grow accustomed to being fed by humans, they have more time to spend loitering around human habitations instead of foraging. Macaques are much better off staying away from humans, so please play your part in keeping them safe in the wild by never feeding them, and let others know too!
