OUR TREATMENT ROOM REVAMP IS FINALLY COMPLETE!

Earlier this year, we embarked on a project to improve the animal holding units in our Treatment Room. The Treatment Room is where we house sick and quarantined animals. As an NGO with limited resources, we previously needed to improvise and use anything suitable at our disposal to provide rescued animals with the best possible care. This meant using assorted pet carriers and crates as holding units. Although suitable, they were not ideal and not uniform, and meant a lot of extra work for the animal caregivers as they were not easy to clean. We wanted to change this, and make everything more uniform and professional.

Through this project, we wanted to address certain issues. Firstly, we wanted to make sure that all holding units were raised off the ground. This would ease the workload of our animal caregivers and volunteers, as they wouldn’t need to keep bending down to clean and feed the animals if the holding units were raised. This would also allow us to better observe the animals and maintain the units in good condition more effectively. Taking everything off the ground and fixing it to the walls also meant more efficient space usage.

Thirdly, we wanted to provide each animal with a uniform enclosure size and a more efficient lighting system, which we could easily rotate among the animals throughout the day. Another challenge was to ensure that the enclosures can be easily cleaned. We have achieved this by adding slots into our holding unit design into which we can insert trays. These trays can easily be pulled out and cleaned daily.

The revamp of our treatment room would not have been possible without YOUR kind contributions during the “Warmth for Walnut” fundraiser. Your continuous support will ensure that we can continue providing optimal care for the rescued animals at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre. Thank you!
