AN ENRICHING TREAT FOR THE AWRC TORTOISES FROM SRI SATHYA SAI SOCIETY

At the end of January, Sri Sathya Sai Society Singapore brought our tortoises a tasty gift: Handmade Flower Ketupats, which were vibrantly-coloured marigolds and roses wrapped in fragrant banana leaves. These flowery treats definitely made the tortoises’ day!

We regularly give the rescued tortoises at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre food-based behavioural enrichment, in addition to their regular daily diet. Some of these feeding enrichments can be a little challenging for the tortoises and they have to work hard for their food treat, which spurs them to move around more actively and do a little more ‘thinking’. While in the care of the AWRC awaiting the opportunity to possibly be repatriated to their home countries and even perhaps back to the wild, enrichment is important to keep rescued animals alert and engaged.

If you are interested to send our rescued animals similar enriching gifts, contact our Education Executive at joee@acres.org.sg to find out how to do so, and organise an inspiring ACRES tour for yourself at the same time!
