WILDLIFE OR PESTS? THE NEED FOR AWARENESS

A few months ago, based on feedback from a concerned resident, ACRES ACIU (Animal Crime Investigation Unit) investigated a video sent to us. It showed bats trapped in a netting used by a pest control operator, resulting in entanglement of the bats, who were subsequently contained in a plastic bag.

While the information was handed over to the AVA who took enforcement action, ACRES also engaged the company who was forthcoming in having a conversation with us, and will be approaching ACRES for wildlife conflict situations for humane solutions. ACRES strongly believes in education efforts going in hand with enforcement action. An advisory was also handed over to the new residents of the unit, for any future bat roosting instances.

While many of us feel lucky to have wildlife visiting or roosting in our residential premises, some residents may find the bat fecal droppings a nuisance. We urge residents facing such issues to understand and live in harmony with wildlife, and explore humane exclusion options instead of removal.

A big thanks to the person who took the step forward by speaking up and assisting with this case.
