The Butterflies Came

I had been waiting patiently for a sign.

And finally, the first butterfly came yesterday.

It was noon and I was out at the vegetables pot to get some greens for lunch. As I approached the pots, a very small white butterfly flitted happily over the plants. I stood and watched the little white butterfly. It was small and dainty, the size of a jasmine flower.

Small and dainty, just like Daffodil.

The butterfly flew into Stargate2, then out again and was there for a few minutes, dancing happily and then, it was gone.

I’d been waiting and yesterday was the 11th day for us. But in another realm, they live by a totally different concept of time. Maybe it had just been 11 seconds, or 11 minutes, we’ll never know.

The butterfly brought some measure of comfort and some assurance to me that all was well and happy for Daffodil now.

Then this morning, as I went out to feed Zurik, two yellow butterflies came. They were a pair and they seemed very happy too. They flitted happily over the plants for a few minutes, danced playfully around and then, disappeared.

In many cultures, the butterfly is often regarded as an after-death communication symbol. It symbolises life after death and it is thought to carry a message from the departed. This is an excerpt from the book Hello from Heaven:

The butterfly is the most frequently mentioned ADC sign. It is a spiritual symbol for life after death because of its metamorphosis, or transformation, from a caterpillar that crawls on the ground to a beautiful, almost ethereal creature that flies through the air.

The butterfly is a symbol of transformation. To a more beautiful form. From this imperfect life, to another one. Hopefully, a much better and happier one.

I remember after Vixey passed away, a yellow butterfly and a golden dragonfly made a majestic entrance into our garden and danced around. It was a splendid moment and I knew it was a message from Vixey that she was already in a happy place.

The little white butterfly must be a messenger sent by Daffodil. Its daintiness reminded me instantly of her.

Be free and happy, Daffi. You’ll always be in our hearts.

The Daffodils

William Wordsworth1770 – 1850

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
   A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A Poet could not but be gay,
   In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
   Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Just as I finished writing this, I went out to hang up the laundry and tiny light blue butterfly came to the garden.

There had been no butterflies for the last 10 days. Suddenly, they are here now.

Thank you for the message, Daffi.
