Elmo, our second green cheek conure is what we call a "special needs" bird. Elmo was rejected by his parents at a very young age and was fostered out to me at about 1 week old. It became evident within the first few days that Elmo has a visual impairment caused by one abnormal eye. Elmo requires special and constant care as his abnormal eye weeps constantly. Flushing his eye with a sterile solution and then wiping the surrounding areas dry is a necessary part of his routine to avoid any infection. Despite his visual impairment, Elmo's gutsy personality and outgoing demeanor means that this small bird can overcome anything!
