The dog was found at about 11pm on Friday, 28 January 2011 in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, KL.

I inquired with neighbors, residents walking their dogs, gated&guarded security guards, a dog-friendly restaurant, a vet, a pet food shop and 2 pet-groomers/hotels in TTDI but no one has ever seen this dog before. I had also put up huge A2/A3-sized posters at TTDI, Damansara Kim, Bukit Damansara, Hartamas, Damansara Uptown, Kg Sg Penchala and Bandar Utama but to date, there has been no claims.

The dog has no tag (only a collar) and no microchip (I checked with Malaysian Kennel Association and a vet). It had some surgery on its back. When I found it, the poor dog was suffering from a wound in one ear and an infection in another but after a visit to a vet and a week, it has recovered.

7 March update: I visited my vet to inquire how long it would take to develop that ear infection thinking that it may indicate how long he was lost. I was taken aback when the vet told me that the severity of the infection indicated at least a month at the minimum!

28 March update: Other than getting him on Heartgard and Frontline, I got him vaccinated. On a good note, the vet noted that he looked happy.

4 April 2011 update: Tried asking an old-timer vet in Taman Megah to see if he could have conducted the surgery but unfortunately, he couldn't remember. Anyway, I'm winning the war against ticks which the dog picked up while lost in the concrete wilderness.

17 May 2011 update: He's now tick-free after I pulled a hundred or so from his body and now on Frontline. I've also neutered him and have decided to adopt him. MDDB believed he's abandoned and I want to showcase him to highlight the plight of abandoned/dumped pets, even pedigree ones.

30 June 2019 UPDATE: In loving memory of Blackie.

FYI it's easy to tell if a male dog has been castrated. Just check his testicles. if castrated then he won't have any testicles. Gluck

It is very nice of u posting a poster near the area u found this dog. I am very puzzled how come the owner of this handsome dog didnt take any urgency in searching for him since you found him. Almost everyday i checked petfinder.my by hoping someone like you found my Ruby but no one, already 1 year plus she went missing...

Dear yenyen, I'm very sorry for your loss. Don't worry, I'm sure that your dog is with someone because it's not easy for a finder (like me!) to publicise a found dog. There was someone who reported seeing my found dog at a TTDI commercial area and wanted to take him home at Shah Alam!

Eileen, thanks for the explanation. I really didn't know that (lol). In this case, I can confirm he's not castrated.

I'm now thinking of expanding my search beyond TTDI. I don't think it's from Kg Sg Penchala or Mont Kiara. Because of the concrete barrier of LDP, it unlikely to survive a trip across from Bandar Utama or Damansara Uptown or Tropicana Mall area to TTDI. So, it's possibly from Damansara Kim because of the barrier-free Jalan Damansara.

Hi ttdi, a friend of mine also found a pure black lab retver mix at dsara kim last weekend. I wonder why some dog owners are so irresponsible and don't go searching for their dogs. Sigh

Was surfing the net hoping that the dog's owner posted a lost notice and came across this article: http://lostdogsfound.blogspot.com/2011/01/ace-black-lab.html
It's about a lost black lab which was found after 5 years!
It pointed out the usefulness of the microchip implanted in the dog. I don't know why in Malaysia, it is so strict to get a microchip with rules such as compulsory to declare the father & mother of the puppy. I could have found the owner if it was compulsory for ALL dogs to get microchipped. I think the animal welfare organisations should take up this matter.
Just a thought from a newbie fosterer.

Why dont you ask the nearby vet? Maybe they have a record about dog who just undergone surgery.

Dear Intan, thanks for your suggestion. I have already ask the one and only vet in TTDI and also the pet groomers here but they all never seen this dog before. But since there's not many black Labradors with back surgery, I'm hoping a vet would be reading this and could identify the dog.

I came across another story about a black labrador mix who was reunited with his family after 5 years too. It was due to be put down after being taken to a dog rescue centre. Check out the story at http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/news/Couple-reunited-beloved-dog-went-missing-years-ago/article--detail/article.html

I also found another story dubbed 'Lost dog story of the year' in 2009 by ABC News involving a black labrador lost for 14 months: http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2009/s.htm and here: http://www.whatsonxiamen.com/news9346.html and some pictures here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-/Nato-Labrador-Sabi-safe-YEAR-lost-fierce-Afghanistan-battle.html

You have a 120% heart of gold! The big fella is so lucky that he found you. I'm really touched to see how good you've been to this dog.

I do hope that he's reunited eventually with his owner, but for the moment he's in the best of care in your kind hands.
