About The Pet
Burt is one of the stray cats which my elderly mother has been feeding. I found Burt with lot of wound on his face and body when I visited my mother on Tues, 27th Sept 2011.
The next day, I’d made arrangement with AnimalCare to treat Burt at their panel vet. Burt was diagnosed with Sporotrichosis, a very serious fungal disease which is zoonatic (that means it can be transmitted human as well). This fungal disease usually affects skin, but in some case it also affects lungs, joints, bones and even brain.
Many years ago (maybe 10-15 years), it was required by law that all Sporotrichosis cases be euthanised because it poses a hazard to other animals and also humans. But ever since the drug Itraconazole was developed and marketed, that law was lifted and now, Sporotrichosis is treatable. However, many vets still prefer to suggest euthanasia in severe cases.
The vet cannot board Burt because of its contagious nature, same to the other panel vet. Thankful, the vet found Dr Chris who is willing to take in and treat Burt. Burt will be put on drug Itraconazole together with antibiotics, the treatment and boarding will costs RM40 per day.
Treatment for Sporotrichosis is expected to spread over weeks or even months, so it will be very costly. I cannot bear to see Burt suffering and yet I also cannot afford to bear Burt’s treatment and boarding at RM40 per day.
Therefore, I am appealing for donation to help Burt’s treatment. Please help this little fella and give him a chance to live on.
Burt's plight has also been highlighted at AnimalCare's blog: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/09/burt-male-cat-with-sporotrichosis.html
Please help Burt!
