SPCA, AVA: Stop Killing Stray Dogs!

 


Dear all, the following petition has been brought to our attention. It appears that it has been borne out of misguided opinions that SPCA has anything to do with the killing of stray dogs whether in the Gardens by the Bay incident or any other area.

As a rule, SPCA does not round up healthy stray dogs or cats. Our position has always been, and will always be, that sterilisation is the only viable method of population control of stray animals. We have stated clearly and irrevocably, time and time again that culling is NOT the answer to control the stray populations.

With regard the suggestion brought forward in the petition, if Ms Shabreena Nazimudeen and all like-minded Singaporeans would step forward and take on the responsibility of housing, feeding, and spending the time and effort to train them, it would be a wonderful act of volunteerism. We are sure the authorities would welcome such help, although we cannot speak for them because SPCA is NOT affiliated to any government agency. It would certainly take the strays off the streets and into permanent homes. Neighborhood watch group should adopt and train strays as K9 patrol with the neighborhood volunteer patrollers.
