Life Can Only Get Better For Mandy

Aunty Kiew called and told me she has rescued a little pup with an injured hind leg from some bushes. She has heard the cries of the pup for the past 2-3 days but gave no thought to it thinking a mother dog was with the pup. But this morning she could not hold her curiosity anymore and decided to jump over the fence to take a good look. What she saw broke her heart, the pup was crying not only because of the pain but also she also must be very hungry. She took her back to the shelter and gave her a good cleaning off maggots, dirt and entangled grass. She called me to rush the pup to the vet for necessary medical attention.

Dr. Lee was shocked when she saw the broken leg. She too wondered what happened to the pup.  Dr. Lee cut off the entangled grass and the pup did not even feel any pain though there was some flesh still dangling to it. Dr. Lee then administered antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and pain killer to stop infection and pain to this pup. She advised the leg to be amputated to prevent infection to the rest of the body. The surgery cost is estimated to be RM580 (after a good discount to us, Second Chance).

Second Chance decided to raise some fund for Mandy so that she can have a good and healthy life again. Mandy was in good health and it is not a problem to perform surgery on her.  I left the clinic with a light heart because she is in good hands now.

UPDATE:-

Mandy’s hind leg has been successfully amputated and she tolerated the surgery very well. Dr. Zamzi has given her a E-collar to prevent her from scratching the stitched-up wounds. Her plight has touched the heart of Jason Teoh who has decided to adopt her. He has come to the shelter to fill up the necessary forms and will take Mandy back to his house . Mandy will not be lonely as Jason has two Shi Tzus to play with her.

Mandy has been discharged yesterday and now is with the fosterer. She is a curious and gentle little pup and she can stand very firmly and moves around very well.

We thank all the donors who helped pay Mandy’s surgery cost, we also thank Jason for giving Mandy a loving home, life will only be better for our little Mandy!

Here are some pictures of Mandy after the surgery and those at fosterer’s home.
