Vets Try To Save Sight Of Basset Hound Stabbed In The Eyes

This poor Basset hound we have named Taurus was rescued from a local temple after reports it had been stabbed in the eyes by people unknown, with sticks. The gentian violet was applied by a well-meaning local. On examination the right eye was found to be completely destroyed and the left eye is damaged and it is too soon to say whether the sight can be saved.

How this dog ended up in a local temple is a bit of a mystery and we guess was probably abandoned by a departing foreigner, as such a breed would be very expensive to purchase in Thailand.

Taurus’s luck changed for the better because of Soi Dog’s Emergency Responders. Members of the Emergency Response Team (https://www.soidog.org/en/donate-today/ert/ert.html) provide the important ongoing funding that makes it possible for dogs like Taurus to be collected and brought to the clinic for urgent, life-saving treatment. As soon as Taurus arrived at the clinic she was seen to by Dr Greg. A full examination showed that Taurus was missing her right eye and all that was remaining was a wound in the eye socket. Taurus also has swollen lymph nodes, indicating infection and she is now being treated with pain killers and antibiotics. Taurus will remain in the clinic for the time being and we will update you on her progress.

Taurus will live at the Soi Dog shelter once he has recovered and hopefully a home can be found for her once she has received the all clear from the vets.

It is only with your help dogs who have been abused can be given urgent veterinary care. You can help dogs like Taurus by joining the Emergency Response Team. Please visit https://www.soidog.org/en/donate-today/ert/ert.html
