BREAKING NEWS: MAYOR VISITS DOG SANCTUARY

Today the mayor made an unscheduled visit to Sasha Pesic’s dog sanctuary in Nis, Serbia. Just days before the planned Christmas eviction of 450 dogs from their cage-free oasis, it seems that the administration is beginning to have a change of heart.

A massive international campaign to save the dogs appears to be having an impact. The mayor said today that the dogs will not be seized and an assemblyman from the city of Nis confirmed that the immediate round up of the dogs is now halted.

While the world is watching, the dogs are safe. But until a firm written agreement is in place to protect the sanctuary, we must continue to apply pressure. We are told the dogs will be moved in the new year, and it remains to be seen if that can be done under terms which are fair and reasonable and in the best interest of the dogs.

Although it’s a little too early to completely celebrate, we’re feeling relieved that no dogs will be chased down on Christmas day.

Thank you, thank you, thank you all for the monumental show of support. More news to come…..

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
