Lets Hope They Will Not Do It Againever!

A friend sent me this video (below) sometime ago, but I couldn’t gather enough courage to watch it despite her telling me that it was about this little child who had saved a goat from being sacrificed.

My friend assured me it was a very touching video and that the goat was saved, but I still could not watch it. I suppose it’s because there is just so much cruelty to animals in this world and you know about it and you are already doing all you can to promote kindness to animals (from saving street animals to urging people to eat less meat and use cruelty-free products), so you don’t wish to be reminded visually about it. You don’t want to have those sad images haunting you. It just doesn’t help because you are already maxed out.

But since we are celebrating HSI and India’s success at urging Gadhimai Temple to stop their ritualistic slaughter, perhaps this video is timely. We can now watch it (if you have the courage, that is) and say, “What’s done in the past cannot be undone. But [we hope, they] will not do it again.” EVER.

I still cannot bring myself to watch it. I don’t want the images to haunt me and I don’t need them to remind me as I’m already doing all that can for the animals. Every day.

But I’m posting it because I think this message is very powerful: “What’s done in the past cannot be undone. But we will not do it again.”

If only we’d sit back and reflect, they could be a number of things that we’ve done in the past that cannot be undone. But it is never ever too late to resolve never to do it again.

For example, eating too much meat? Resolve to eat less. Maybe even not eat anymore. We all know where meat comes from, don’t we?

While we shout and scream at the cruel slaughter of animals, whether at the previous Gadhimai festivals, Yulin or elsewhere, what about the billions of animals slaughtered daily for meat in slaughterhouses all over the world? How is their fear and pain any different?

A lot of cruelty starts at the dinner table. It can stop from there too.
