THE FIGHT AGAINST ONLINE WILDLIFE CRIME

Tomorrow is World Wildlife Day, our Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) needs your help and your support in our fight to save lives.

Just in 2017, ACRES handled 186 wildlife crime cases, resulting in nabbing 43 offenders. With the strong collaboration with Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA), we have put a huge dent in the illegal wildlife trade in Singapore.

Also, in 2017, the ACIU’s regular monitoring picked up over 500 online advertisements offering prohibited wildlife (live animals and parts) on various online platforms such as Gumtree Singapore, Locanto and Carousell, excluding a huge number that exists on Facebook and Instagram. With the co-operation of the websites such as Carousell, and the support of AVA, several ads were taken down.

Through sting operations with AVA in the last two months, online sellers of prohibited wildlife have been successfully apprehended, and our work resulted in seizure of alleged rhino, bear and tiger parts, in addition to live animals including tarantulas and hedgehogs being offered online for sale as illegal pets.

Please do your part by saying no to wildlife trade, whether live animals or their parts.

Blow the whistle when you come across online advertisements by

(1) reporting to the AVA,

(2) clicking “Report/Flag Ad” or

(3) writing to the platform to take a step forward to end live animal trade online.

You can choose to email ACRES at acrescrime@gmail.com with a screenshot and URL of the advertisement.

Please consider supporting our work through a donation, without which we won’t be able to continue our fight to end wildlife crime!
