Barkings in the morning

Barking early in the morning may ne a form of nuisance if one is iving in an apartment or clusters of houses. Why do dogs bark when the sun rises?

A dog’s bark in the morning is an act of getting attention from its owner to feed or do potty. The dog shall continue to bark if not attended.

How to Stop the Barking in the Morning Behavior

Your dog will have some pauses in between barking. Use these pauses as your advantage by attending to your dog when it is quiet. If you are getting up and the barking resumes, walk back to your bedroom. Make sure that your dog takes notice of this. Your dog needs to know that her barking is what causes you to not open her door. Quiet brings you closer to her, while barking gets you more distant.

Dogs are smart and always on look out for treats/rewards. Give them treats when given treats for doing it right. The dogs shall learn to be quiet, and you have to reinforce these trainings. The dogs will eventually replace barking which should gradually extinguish.

Other Tips:

Darkening shaded room may trick your dog and allow you some extra sleep.

Extra snacks (or even kibble) as bedtime snack may help your dogs feel less hungry in the morning (if you feed your dog once a day).

Keep your dog/s in the same bedroom (although to some this may seem impractical), may help decrease barkings.

Quiet command may able to help you too. The moment the dog quiets down say ”good!” and give a treat. If the dog barks, turn your back and ignore.

Ensure that your dog is not barking in the morning because of the need to go potty. Most dogs really need to go after keeping it all night. Let your dog/s out for potty before you go into your bed at night.

Well exercise your dog during the day so that your dog is more likely to sleep in the night.
