Tip Off Leads To Confiscation Of Slow Loris And Ot..

TIP OFF LEADS TO CONFISCATION OF SLOW LORIS AND OTHER WILDLIFE FOR SALE AT SUNGEI TENGAH

In July, our ACIU (Animal Crime Investigation Unit) received a tip-off from a member of public on the sale of exotic wildlife at a farm in Sungei Tengah.

Investigations revealed the illegal sale of an endangered primate species – the slow loris – in addition to other wildlife species such as pacman frogs, Chinese soft-shelled turtles and false map turtles within the farm’s premises.

Thanks to the swift action from Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA), these animals were seized and placed under the care of Wildlife Reserves Singapore.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the public for blowing the whistle and speaking up for these victims of crime.

It is an offence in Singapore to keep or sell wildlife species and convicted offenders can be fined up to S$1,000. If the species is protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), those convicted can be jailed for up to two years or fined a maximum of S$500,000.

If you have information pertaining to possession or sale of prohibited species/their parts, please report to the AVA at 6805 2992, submit your feedback via www.ava.gov.sg/feedback or write to acrescrime@gmail.com.
