Last year a dog pound in Bosnia was keeping the animals in such extreme neglect that the entire facility was closed down and the order was given for every dog to be destroyed. One local man, Bojan Veselica, decided to save the dogs. He raised enough money to begin converting a rundown property into a shelter. In a profound leap of faith, he started this refuge with a dream that the dogs could have a better life. But now, he is about to run out of food.

“Yesterday we had a delivery of food. I paid for it. That will keep them going until the weekend. After that, I can’t do anything honestly. I have no money left,” Bojan explained of the crisis facing the approximately 600 dogs he cares for.

“We are still raising for funds to pay the July debt and I have been paying and paying food myself,” Bojan continued. “It’s now the end of September. I don’t have money to do that anymore. And days from now I have to give salaries to the two workers, 300 euros each plus 100 euros for their food.”

“My operational capabilities are jeopardised completely,” Bojan continued. “It’s not a good situation. We are trying to raise funds for debt from July and it is now the end of September. Combined with August and September we are 10,000 Euros behind. That’s not a joke. I don’t have any more money. This is my life and theirs we are talking about. I am all out of magic tricks. I won’t be able to feed them after Saturday. If we didn’t have a life or death situation before, we do now.”
