1.5°C is safer than 2°C for people and nature, says WWF-UK’s chief climate change advisor Steve Cornelius, as governments head to Korea next week to consider a landmark Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C

Political leadership is important. Strong leadership and the right choices can lead to the necessary rapid and deep cuts to greenhouse gas emissions, which improves the chance of limiting warming to 1.5°C. For example, governments encouraging renewable energy over fossil fuels.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad’s suggestion to use coal in Sabah during his opening address at the 22nd Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) 2018 would not be a step in the right direction in terms of climate action. It is better not to pollute in the first place.
