Two weeks ago, we asked for help in buying food for the Bark Ark in Bosnia, a rescue haven that was out of kibble and unable to buy more due to extreme debts for animal care.

The Bark Ark shelter was created a couple years ago when Bojan Veselica stumbled upon a municipal dog pound full of desperate, caged dogs who were given no food or water at all. Bojan started bringing food daily, and this ordinary man suddenly found himself searching for a way to create a haven where the dogs could eat and sleep in safety. He succeeded in creating a proper rescue center and has saved hundreds of dogs. He’s also dramatically reduced the local stray dog population and more residents are starting to spay/neuter their pets. But the costs of caring for so many dogs at the shelter is very high and adoptions take time.That’s why you all were asked to help, to at least keep the food supply flowing and to try to chip away at the debt that has accumulated.

“To the AMAZING supporters of the Harmony Fund, what a great thing you have done,” shelter administrator Lesley Watkins said in a letter of gratitude. “Thank you for your kind donations in support of the critical food debts that the Bark Ark is carrying forward month after month. Bojan Veselica was able to close July’s bills with the suppliers and we now move forward to settle August and September debts. There is no magic wand that Bojan and the Bark Ark can wave and “puff” they disappear. But together we can work a little magic. Please continue with your vital support, please continue to give the doggies a chance at life…it’s the greatest gift you can give them.”
