Dog Owner Fined For Causing Pet 'Unnecessary Pain', Throws Spotlight On Treatment Of Sick Pets

RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP

Responsible pet ownership involves a pet owner taking responsibility for the overall well-being of their pet. This includes making both the time and financial commitment throughout the animal’s life.

When a pet falls ill, it is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that the animal gets the proper treatment for it to recover. We understand that some pet owners may not be able to afford medical care. In such cases, the pet owner should seek assistance.

However, the SPCA has come across some people who think seeking medical treatment for their pet is optional. In other cases, the animals are abandoned or surrendered whilst riddled with illness as the owner may not be able to afford treatment or may be unwilling to pay.

This is the reason why we constantly advocate for responsible pet ownership. Before obtaining a pet, one must consider whether they are capable of committing both the time and money to upkeep a pet for life.
