Homeless For 1 Year After Mom Died. Dog Is Swept A..

HOMELESS for 1 YEAR after “MOM” DIED

DOG IS SWEPT AWAY BY HEROES

********************

It all started when Steve Stephens stopped to get gas. He noticed a yellow lab watching him hopefully. He inquired with the cashier and learned that the dog had been visiting the business for almost a year, trying to get food and water from customers. The dog’s human “mom” had died and he was put out on the street when her home was emptied.

“I’ve been trying to find a no kill shelter around Corpus Christi that will take in a dog we found, but we can’t even get a reply. It’s so discouraging,” Steve wrote to the Harmony Fund international animal rescue charity after months of trying to find help. “We are even willing to pay for his vet exam, shots and care and still no response.”

We struck a deal. Steve would continue his now-daily ritual of visiting the gas station with food and water twice a day until Harmony Fund could find a family. And that happened in nearly an instant when we took to Facebook and asked for help …

“My husband just lost our dog and I am on my way to see him,” Gladys Carsel said on her way to talk with her husband, a short while after the couple had to say goodbye to their own elderly lab.

“He might be interested, and if so, I will drive down to pick her up. I will let you know in a couple hours.”

Sure enough, Gladys made good on her promise. Her husband Fred agreed that this dog needed their help and the two set a plan to make a six hour drive to pick him up within a few days.

“We want to love him and give him his last best years,” Gladys said.

After a long ride home and a few visits to the veterinarian, the Labrador, now named Beau, is happy-as-a-lark.

“Beau’s better every day, happy, playful,” Fred Carsel said. “He’s turning into my little shadow and also a little piglet. Loving to eat now and loving his treats.”

“We are beyond grateful that he is in capable, loving hands,” said Steve Stephens, knowing that his intervention brought a new family to Beau who was just as hungry for love as he was for dinner.

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
