Soi Dog News Update Earlier This Month, Soi Dog Fo..

📣 SOI DOG NEWS UPDATE: Earlier this month, Soi Dog Foundation met with Mr. Somkiat Phansri, Head of the Animal Welfare Protection Division of the Department of Livestock Development (DLD), to discuss the development and management of Thailand’s animal shelters. Representatives from animal quarantine centres in Buriram and Nakhon Phanom and other relevant organisations also attended.

Soi Dog Foundation’s Bangkok Director of Animal Welfare Dr. Oob gave a presentation about the development of animal shelter management, the pillars of maintaining a sustainable shelter and the importance of adopting shelter animals instead of purchasing from puppy mills. Alongside Dr. Oob were Soi Dog’s behaviour team, local adoptions team, including Soi Dog’s Sanctuary and International Animal Welfare Directors.

We continue to advocate for better standards of care at shelters, including spacious indoor/outdoor housing for dogs and cats, a spay and neuter programme, an adoption programme (including pre-adoption screening checks and follow-ups) and a comprehensive humane education programme. Most importantly, we advocate for on-site veterinary care and isolation areas for sick dogs and cats. We also highlight that opening a shelter to the public and welcoming volunteers and visitors can truly transform a good shelter into a great one. 🤝
