Calling for a research assistant 🦈

WWF-Malaysia is thrilled to invite a motivated individual with a passion for shark and ray conservation focusing on research development on three main areas; fisheries bycatch, domestic trade and habitat monitoring. This individual will work with universities and other partners to collect scientific data to fulfil scientific gaps. If you’re as passionate about sharks and rays as we are, join the team and contribute to our project.

Employment Status: Full Time

Duration: 6 Months (Starting February 2022) Possible extension

Location: PJCC based and field work based (throughout East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia)

Requirements:

🔸 Bachelor/Master’s degree in marine/fisheries/ environmental sciences and related disciplines (Minimum CGPA 3.00)

🔸 Malaysian citizens

🔸 Excellent command of English, Bahasa Malaysia (both written and spoken), ability to converse in Mandarin will be an

advantage

🔸 Ability to coordinate and carry out research work independently with minimal supervision

🔸 Experience in scientific writing

🔸 Experience in technical research and analytical skills (Statistical analysis, or familiar with R are a plus)

🔸 Preference given to those with experience in fish sampling and certified Open Water SCUBA diving license.

Job Scope:

◼ Assist coordination of research activities as per work plan that includes workshops, meetings, field sampling, etc

◼ Participate in field samplings with universities and project partners (fisheries landing survey, underwater monitoring in marine parks and retail products e.g., shark fins survey)

◼ Assist in multi-stakeholder interviews and focus group discussions

◼ Collecting, entries, analysis of data and report writing

◼ Manage social media communications with a focus on promoting citizen science, collecting and verifying species occurrence in marine parks.

◼ Relevant administration, logistics and budget management

◼ Other tasks as needed and/or as of interest
