World Turtle Day. Shell-Ebrate With Education Asia..

WORLD TURTLE DAY 🐢

Shell-ebrate with education: Asian Turtle Crisis

Asia may be a biodiversity hotspot for turtles, but our scaly shelled friends are disappearing fast. With more than a quarter of the world’s turtle species found in our tropical region, they are in danger due to habitat loss, perceived medicinal purposes, and the exotic pet trade.

This World Turtle Day, you can do your part to keep our turtles safe by not supporting the exotic pet trade; it is illegal to keep any turtle species apart from the Malayan Box Terrapin and the Red-eared Slider as pets in Singapore. If you are keen on being a forever family to our shelled friends, be sure to learn about the heavy responsibilities of caring for them.

Most importantly, do not abandon them as this upsets the delicate ecosystem balance, and introduces competition to our native turtles. If you require assistance in rehoming your turtles, please approach an animal welfare group for help.

ps. yes, we are 2 days late!
