THE WILD CHILDREN Here are some baby birds whom we took under our wing (pun intended) and look at their glow ups, in their journey back to the wild! You see a baby bird, who is seemingly stranded and uninjured, what would you do? If your response was to assess the environment and attempt reunification, then you are on the right track! No matter how well intentioned, when it comes to baby animals, it is always best to stick around to see if the parents are around before proceeding to remove...

Wild Animals Are Not Pests!
15th Oct 2021, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

WILD ANIMALS ARE NOT PESTS! Our #WildlifeRescue team was alerted to a paradise tree snake at an university campus. When we arrived, we observed that an escaping paradise tree snake was stepped on several times, and was sprayed with oil-based aerosol (used as an insecticide) by a pest control company. Frustrated not being able to stop this madness on time, the rescue officers brought back the snake for treatment. Our #WildlifeVet provided the snake with fluids, medication and oxygen therapy, sa...

10th Oct 2021, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

CAN YOU GUESS WHY THIS NAME? - PRETZEL'S STORY #Pretzel was found dangling from a drain hole and was clearly immobile. Thanks to a vigilant member of public we were informed of Pretzel’s plight and were able to send our team down to assist. Pythons are often misunderstood creatures who in reality are very #shy and docile. They only react in defense when they feel threatened. So if you do come across a #python in green spaces or drains do not be alarmed, maintain your distance and if circums...

1st Oct 2021, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

RESCUE BEHAVIOUR Examples of humans going out of their way to help both human and non-human animals, especially in times of distress are aplenty. There are numerous reasons why we choose to do so and for some, a sense of responsibility propels them given that increased human activity is greatly inconveniencing animals. But why do animals do the same? There are several instances observed where animals put themselves at risk to ease the suffering of another. Termed as Rescue Behaviour this has...

Why Education On Wildlife Etiquette Matters. A You..
28th Aug 2021, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

WHY EDUCATION ON WILDLIFE ETIQUETTE MATTERS! A young macaque at Punggol has had access to food waste in addition to being fed by some people. As a curious intelligent creature, he learnt quickly to approach people, overflowing bins and even grab toys! We appeal to members of public in general, to equip yourself, also teach your kids to practice wildlife etiquette - to not approach, not make sudden movements or scream at them, not to feed them and dispose food waste appropriately. For these...

FISH [WELFARE] MATTERS! Naomi Clark-Shen, a PhD student in marine sciences, says #fish are among the most poorly treated animals, because they slip through most animal welfare legislation. “People and organisations talk about improving ‘#sustainability’ for fishes [focusing on the environmental impact of seafood production], but very rarely welfare,” she told Eco-Business. https://www.eco-business.com/news/n obody-seems-to-care-about-fish-welfare-heres-why-w e-should/ #FishSentience ...

Where The Wild Things Are: On The Road With Acres’ Wildlife Rescue Team (Part 1)

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE: On The Road With Our Rescue Team Thank you Rice Media for the beautiful photos, candid sharing and the feature! "To my right, Ka Lai, ACRES’ co-CEO, is driving with the grim expression of a man in need of caffeine. To my left, Laurie Day, his partner for today’s shift, is triaging calls to their hotline, toggling between phones (one for ACRES’ case logs, one for the hotline) like she’s competing in the multi-tasking #Olympics. From what I can tell, she’s...
