WISH UPON A STAR Their star-like radiating yellow patterns on their shell is quite a stunner. And so, the Indian star tortoises often poached from the wild for the illicit pet trade, making them a vulnerable species listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Rex, a common snapping turtle non-native to Singapore, was found at a playground drinking from the puddle. He is currently under our care as a new resident of the #AcresWildlifeRescueCentre, which houses non-native tortoises, turtles, snakes and lizards. [Saving our animals] Marine plastic waste chokes and kills one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals every year. And it harms us too. It comes back a full circle and our own plastic trash harms us directly. It really is time to combat this plastic problem.
