Poor Shock couldn’t fly or even stand up properly. Bitterns are very sensitive to changes in the environment and do get stressed easily. Shock was given ample time to rest and, after receiving some fluids, he managed to fly off! ...

DOLPHIN DORSAL FINS ARE JUST LIKE FINGERPRINTS Did you know that dolphins each have a unique-looking dorsal fin? This is because nicks and scars caused by dominance fights, injuries (such as those inflicted by propeller collisions) or deformities are unique to each individual. For this reason, dolphin researchers aim to obtain high-resolution photos of the dorsal fin to distinguish and identify each individual. Landmark Ruling: Animals Can Legally Be Considered Victims, Just Like Humans
22nd Sep 2015, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

LANDMARK RULING: ANIMALS CAN LEGALLY BE CONSIDERED VICTIMS The Oregon Supreme Court (in the USA) has passed a landmark ruling that will improve the way that animals are protected by law. The ruling ensures that an animal can be seen as a legal "victim" in a case, giving animals more basic rights to protect them from abuse. This is a truly progressive step, acknowledging that animals are sentient beings in their own right rather than "property".

DURIAN IS DOING WELL AND GROWING BIGGER AND BIGGER! A few months ago, we rescued our first alligator snapping turtle, named Durian. He was unwell and inactive at first, refusing to eat at all. We decided to give him some time to settle in to see if his appetite improved on its own before intervention, as very often turtles in a new environment will not eat for some time. We’re glad to report that Durian is now doing so much better! He is more active now, and eats lots! He is rapidly increas...

15th Sep 2015, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
