We've talked about how higher temperatures in beaches produce more female turtle hatchlings. But what if temperatures were to rise even further? If temperatures are extremely high, the implications may be much more serious, leading to high nest mortality in some places. Greater egg loss could lead to a decrease in population size, increasing the vulnerability of turtles to extinction.

Did you know that sambar deer are the main prey species for tigers in Malaysia? This species is hunted for sport, their meat and also their antlers. In an effort to protect it from extinction, the government is pushing for it to become a totally protected species.

How do forests combat climate change? Trees not only
shade us from the sun, they also prevent the soil from drying out, reducing heat loss in the process. Their roots which hold onto the soil around them and absorb water reduces the risk of landslides and floods.

A female turtle will return to the same beach where she hatched in to lay her eggs as an adult. If our sea levels rise due to climate change, our beaches would begin to erode, reducing the nesting areas of turtles.
This Earth Hour, we are highlighting the need to restore our forests to battle climate change. Help us win the fight for earth’s future, fundraise or donate at http://goo.gl/m0fB5U
