Tabs’ Second Nebulization
17th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

This time, it went much, much better. She did not go to the end of the carrier. In fact, she came forward to sniff the fumes, just as Ginger does! Tabs has a mild cough. She is on Cetirizine (anti-histamine) and Neulin (broncodilator). With working from home, I spend a lot of time in Bunny’s Room, so Tabs comes in too. Tabs has dual citizenship and the Cow Clan does not bully her anymore these days. She gets to enjoy the bed only when the Cows aren’t using it. She’s a bit of...

Mimi’s Story (a Sharing)
17th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

Here’s a lovely sharing from my friend, Soi Chee. It was her very first time handling a newborn kitten, with an injury too. Be inspired!! Lately we added  a new member to the family for the first time, a CAT !!!!  The newborn appeared at my brother’s door step last year June … badly wounded …I think she was abandoned by the mother . Eyes still closed could hardly crawl … the size was smaller than my palm . We took her to the vet and the young vet told u...

Another Article On Dogs And Covid19
16th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

The article: https://www.icam-coalition.org/did-d ogs-really-play-a-role-in-the-origin-of-sars-cov-2 / Combining his claim of dogs as the likely mammalian intestinal host in which viral evolution could take place, with this need for isolation from humans for several years, he targets feral dogs. However this exposes a lack of understanding of dog population dynamics. Dogs are a domesticated species that have evolved alongside people. As a species, they are now entirely useless at sustaining...

The Cow Clan’s Portraits

Can you spot the four “cows”? Pole is eating her high blood medicine, hidden in some AD. Everyone wants AD too! “The Leg” is back!

Minnie And Smurfy Came Back For Lunch!!
16th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

It didn’t take long….. Minnie was back at around 1pm to wait for lunch!! I did not expect her to come back so soon, but I think my guess is correct about her perception of the entire Ops Subuh. I opened the door and they walked in by themselves. I did not force them. And while they were inside the house, there was no aggression or coercion of any kind. I let them explore and kept offering them food and toys. Finally, Minnie found a way out on her own free will. So, from their persp...

The New CKD-Treatment Plan For Pole
16th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

There’s a small change to Pole’s treatment plan for her progressing CKD (chronic kidney disease). Since I’ve already been doing subcut three times a week for her, doing it on alternate days isn’t much different from three times a week. So I discussed this with the vet and the vet advised that for this one week, I should do Pole’s 150ml subcut on a daily basis. Hopefully, with this daily subcut for one week and the high blood medication (Amlodipine), her kidney readi...

MBI, Please Reconsider. Dogs Do Not Transmit Covid19.
16th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

We refer to this report: https://www.thestar.com.my/news/natio n/2020/04/11/animal-to-human-transmission-ipoh-cou ncil-rounds-up-strays-just-in-case We urge and appeal to MBI (Ipoh City Council) to please reconsider their decision to capture street dogs because as far as research shows now, dogs do not transmit Covid19 to humans. It is vice-versa. Therefore, it is unnecessary to round up street dogs for this purpose. We also refer to this statement in the report: “He said city council...

“Ops Subuh” (Minnie & Smurfy Are Inside The House Now)
16th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

It was about 6.30am this morning. Minnie and Smurfy were waiting for me right outside our front door. As I opened the door to go out to feed them, a thought occurred to me. It’s not a new thought, though, I already thought of it last night. Why not, instead of luring them into the two carriers, just lure them through the front door into the house? But I know it would be a problem to catch them later to put them into the carrier as the house is a big space. However, I think it would be less...

Tabs’ Nebulization
15th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

Tabs had two bouts of coughing today, so I decided to nebulize her. I didn’t know what to expect as Ginger is an exceptional case. “The first cat ever to like sniffing in the fumes” was the vet’s description of Ginger when the nebulization was done at the clinic. Even at home, he does the same. Puts his nose at the outlet and takes it all in. Some cats are known to go all crazy and hysterical too. How would Tabs react? Well, she did not like it and went to as far back as...

Minnie And Smurfy’s Adventures Continue
15th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

Here are some photos of our feeding sessions. Both still have a ravenous appetite, especially little Smurfy. Minnie is not as hungry as before now. The trouble with both is that they like to play and lounge in the middle of the road and they are both grey in colour. I had a hard time getting them to the side this morning. There are still cars passing through. I finally had to lure them inside again with food. So, they had two breakfasts today. This afternoon, as I brought Bunny out in the car...

The Cats’ New Bed
15th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

With Yui Ping’s help, I moved the bench out and in its place now is a super single mattress placed on the floor. Knowing for sure the super-alphas would spray, I first wrapped the mattress with a tarpaulin, then with a french flannel blanket and next with these two pieces of blankets. It’s an 8-inch mattress. I even ordered a wooden bed frame, but decided to cancel the order as a bed frame would be too imposing. The advantage of a bed would be that I can get up from it easily (bad k...

Bunny’s Check-Up Today
15th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

Today was Bunny’s check-up and I was nervous as the vet had said those with underlying problems like hyperthyroidism and high blood (such as Pole) and FIV might progress faster in this kidney disease. Bunny is FIV+, has been since he was a kitten. He used to be very weak when young, taking a very long time to recover from the flu or any health problems. But his resistance and ability to heal seem to have improved over the years as he grew older. Our trip to the vet’s. I used Feliway...

What Jane Goodall Says About Covid19
15th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

The article: https://www.nst.com.my/world/world/2 020/04/583524/jane-goodall-disrespect-animals-caus ed-covid-19-pandemic Goodall: It is our disregard for nature and our disrespect of the animals we should share the planet with that has caused this pandemic, that was predicted long ago. Because as we destroy, let’s say the forest, the different species of animals in the forest are forced into a proximity and therefore diseases are being passed from one animal to another, and that seco...

By The Way, What Rotten Tooth, Again? (Pole’s Story)
14th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

Ref: https://myanimalcare.org/2020/04/14/pole s-visit-to-the-vets-not-so-good/ I forgot to mention one important observation on Pole today, but this needs two backstories. Two years ago, Pole was pawing badly at her mouth until she could no longer eat. Her vet wasn’t around, so I had to see another vet at the same clinic. This vet said Pole had a very rotten tooth that needed to be extracted. There was no other way about it. So Pole was put on a few medicines to reduce the inflammatio...

Tabs Has A Cough
14th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

A very mild one. She started coughing this morning and again this afternoon, so I took no chances. While I did not take her the vet, the vet prescribed an antihistamine (Cetirizine) and a broncodilator (Neulin) for Tabs. She says I could also nebulize Tabs. I haven’t done it yet tonight as she seems fine now. But I’ve given her the tablets. It was fairly easy to pill her. Tabs has no sneezing or heavy breathing, so it’s slightly different from Ginger’s.  She has been...

Pole’s Visit To The Vet’s (not So Good)
14th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

Okay, now, for the not-so-good news…. Pole’s. Some background first: Pole is hyperthyroid and is on life-long transdermal Methimazole. This brought her hyperthyroidism under good control. She has kidney insufficiency as evidenced by her kidney readings and her previous urine SG of 1.019 (normal is 1.035), but her UPC was normal (no protein leak in urine). Pole is 14 years old. Pole was very well-behaved in the car. We will start with the blood test results. It was rather shocking. ...

Indy’s Visit To The Vet’s
14th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

The reason I decided to take Indy is that he only has one functioning kidney. One of his kidneys is much smaller than the other and this is probably from way, way back when he was first rescued from the drain as a tiny kitten with all kinds of infections. Indy was making noise in the car all the way too. Indy’s weight increased to 5.7kg and that is not surprising seeing how he hypnotises me all the time to get double meals. The vet said although he is not obese, but he could do with some ...

Cleo To The Vet’s (all Ok)
14th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

If you remember, the other day Cleo declared war on me when I tried to do her subcut alone.  I enlisted Yui Ping’s help but he in turn got bitten by the tigress. I finally managed to, using AD to entice her, but with Cleo, what works once, will probably not work again. So, today, I decided not to take any chances. I did Pole and Bunny’s subcut, then I took Cleo to the vet’s for hers. Of course I had also made a prior appointment and the vet suggested that we might as well ...

Cats And Coronavirus
13th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare

Another article: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/lifestyle /news/article.cfm?c_id=6&objectid=12322759& ;fbclid=IwAR3lTcmkN3tshHWcYJ1CrUTQRpODYrEJUMaikF0e 3d5wGr6jIaxQrbmtEaY Some excerpts: Whereas the two canine SARS-CoV-2 cases had no obvious clinical signs relating to Covid-9, the cat at the centre of the latest media attention did have respiratory symptoms. But as every vet knows, cats can have breathing difficulties for many reasons, from feline asthma to heart disease. Similarly, the...
