Gorki Spent Nearly Six Years As Someone's Pet Befo..

Gorki spent nearly six years as someone’s pet before he came into our care last year. Sadly, he was tied up and left alone for most of his days, meaning he had no way of escaping when he was attacked one day by a neighbour’s dog. The attack left him with multiple wounds which were left untreated and became infected and infested with maggots.

As soon as we were alerted to the situation, Gorki was rescued and brought to our shelter. Unfortunately, by that point, his right eye and part of his front right paw were too damaged and had to be removed.

Despite everything he’d been through, Gorki was always a happy and energetic little boy at Soi Dog, and he somehow never lost his trust in people.

After a year and seven months with us, Gorki was adopted by a couple who read his sad story and knew right away that they wanted to offer him the loving home he deserved on their beautiful farm in Ireland.

Today, we’re happy to share a sweet update from Gorki’s adopter following his arrival last month:

“Gorki’s first few weeks with us have been amazing. He’s just been absolutely thriving. I’m really quite astounded how well and quickly he settled and relaxed – it really is testament to how well the Soi team treats their animals and helps them adjust to life after neglect.

When he first arrived, we brought him to his space with the baby gates and when he saw the toys we had out, he went crazy – he was running around like a lunatic playing with every single toy. It really took us by surprise as we were expecting him to be exhausted and sleep for the day after such a long trip. Our cat heard the commotion and peered through the baby gate and Gorki came up to her, smelt her nose and went back to playing so all was good on that front. He then spent a good hour smelling everything and then getting the zoomies and running around and rolling on the floor on his back. We then had a walk around the property so he could go to the loo and then he curled up on the couch and finally passed out for the rest of the evening.

Him and Gus had their first proper play session the other evening and it was hysterical – they have an identical play style and actually get along like a house on fire. The cat also loves playing with him and he’s so good about it. It’s really as if he’s been here his whole life ❤️ We already can’t imagine our days without him. It has been a really great start (far better than we could have predicted) but we know that’s not to say things may be different tomorrow or over the next few weeks as he continues to settle in, so we’ll just take things as they come and at whatever pace he leads us.

Once again thank you so much to everyone for entrusting Gorki with us. We couldn’t have dreamed up a more perfect new family member if we’d tried!”

It’s only thanks to supporters like you that Gorki got a second chance at life – a life that promises to be full of the fun, love and safety he missed out on for so many years.
