WORLD’S SMALLEST PUPPY.. BEYONCE!
The worlds smallest puppy has found another app for the iPhone as a bed. When she was born, Beyonc weighed just one ounce and was so tiny she could fit in a spoon. Now two weeks old, shes still about the size of a credit card. And like the title of a song penned by her namesake shes a survivor.
Beyonc was the runt of a litter born a fortnight ago to a beleaguered Dachshund mix named Casey, who was abandoned by her owner and left to fend for herself on the streets of San Bernardino, California.
After she was picked up and put in the dog pound, pregnant Casey, who is less than a year old herself, was set to be put down because the shelter couldnt accommodate a canine mother with a brand-new brood.
But a last-chance dog rescue group stepped in to save the day after hearing about Caseys plight. The Grace Foundation, based in Northern California, gave the heavily pregnant mother a place to stay.
But Beyonc still faced a battle for survival. An ultrasound revealed that Casey was expecting five puppies and one of them was unusually small and wasnt expected to survive.
Beyonc was the last puppy to be delivered and at first the vet thought she was still born. She didnt have a heartbeat and wasnt breathing.
Dr Michael Russell, the Grace Foundations vet, tried giving the pup heart compressions, but she still wasnt breathing. Thats when Beth DeCaprio jumped in and began performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to breath life into the tiny dog.
It was actually a little funny, and gross, trying to get my mouth around hers, but after a couple of really small breaths she took a deep breath and started to really move around. We cleaned out her little nasal passages, and I gave her a couple more breaths and then she started breathing on her own, she said.
You dont expect dogs to survive with that many chances of death. She is just a remarkable little survivor, she added.
Now Beyonc is still smaller than the rest of her siblings, but shes grown to 4.3oz and is said to be thriving.
The rescue centre says she will be available for adoption in just a few weeks. Our hope is that Beyonc and her miraculous story of survival helps spread awareness about the plight of rescue dogs, said Miss DeCaprio. ‘Most people are not aware of how many dogs and pups are euthanised each year because shelters do not have the capability of holding onto them until they are weaned and able to be spayed and neutered.
Although Beyonc isnt officially the worlds tiniest dog yet, the foundation has submitted an application to the Guinness World Records. She is expected to weigh about 1lb when she’s fully grown. The current small dog record holder is Boo Boo the chihuahua from Kentucky who is six years old, 4in tall and weighs 1lb
