I met Loo, an ardent and dedicated dog-and-cat rescuer, at Petfinder's event.

We've helped Loo before previously, with her cats.  Loo works in a restaurant and has been rescuing many, many stray animals.

At the event, she spent a long time showing me the photos of all her rescues and telling their stories.  It is sad to know how much these street dogs suffer because they are homeless and some are abused by people.  Loo tells of mother-dogs who give birth and subsequently lose the entire litter of puppies.

Sometimes people tell me that spay-neuter is cruel and that we must allow the female animal to at least have one litter.  That is humanising the animals again.  Our vet tells me we must never do that.  We must not apply our values and feelings of wanting motherhood on the animals, he says.

Hearing Loo's stories about mother-dogs who lose their entire litter brings home the truth of the above.  Some of them do not choose to be mothers.  Some don't even know how to care for their off-springs.  Nature is such that animals will mate and reproduce, not out of choice, but out of instinct.  And when conditions are unfavourable, their off-springs die, sometimes, in very sad circumstances.  That's when the mother-dog feels the loss and the pain.  Yes, they do feel sad when they lose their off-springs.

We can prevent this happening, if we spay-neuter.  It may be an "evil" (to some people), but it is an "evil" (for want of a better word), done out of compassion because we know of no better way than this, to help the many stray animals wandering on the streets.

Prevent them from getting pregnant to prevent the subsequent suffering of their off-springs and themselves.

Currently, Loo has many rescued dogs and puppies for adoption.  If you are interested to help these puppies and dogs find homes, please contact Loo directly on 016 - 2062448.

I think the photos below will tell the story:

There are SO many of us.
