Two days ago, Lester and his family brought Simba for a consultation at Lydia’s place.

Lydia texted later to say that there is good potential and hope for Simba:

Just spent about 2hrs with Lester, Simba n mum n dad.

I feel very hopeful for Simba. She does present with nerve injury in one hind leg but it is by no means a complete severing of the nerve as seen by the carriage of the leg and a good sign is her quadriceps are functioning which means she has control and almost normal control of at least up to her knee joint.

She’s young n healthy and still developing. It is highly likely the injured nerve can heal or form new pathways. So Lester n family have been given homework to strengthen Simba’s affected leg and stimulate proprioception, which is limb placement. An absence or deficit of proprioception is usually indicated by knuckling which Simba exhibits.

I also looked at Simba’s healing severed tail and its looking healthy though the daily cleaning regime n care has to be stepped up a notch. So I went through some wound care basics with Lester.

Generally the healing of feet and tail injuries are famous for being challenging. But still all possible with commitment and proper home nursing.

We thank Lydia for spending so much time with Simba, and guiding Lester and his family to care for Simba. There was no charge at all. We have also recommended Simba’s case to Dr Susanna (asiapaws.com) for acupuncture.

We hope to hear milestones of improvement soon!
