*** SCAM ALERT ***

A suspected scam message has been circulating on the Internet for the past week:

“Who wants to adopt a dog? Free. Rottweiler , Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, VIP, Chihuahua , etc….There is a kennel to be demolished , there are thousands of dogs, without adoption they would starve to death. Last day of adoption 28th Feb, if you are not interested in adoption, pls help to share this message and help these poor dogs, have to be adopted, please contact XXX”

Please DO NOT circulate this message or contact the person listed as it is highly likely to be fraudulent. Here’s why:

a) We are not aware of any such shelter in Malaysia with “thousands of free pedigrees”. In fact, most shelters only have a few hundred animals, which are primarily mixed breeds. And there will be adoption fees.

b) Scammers prey on people’s greed on getting FREE pedigrees worth thousands. They also exploit people’s kindness to spread the message to unsuspecting friends.

c) You will likely be asked by the scammer to pay a lot of processing fees, medical fees, clearance fees but will never see any dog in the end.

d) If it is a genuine shelter, there would be more official details of the location, people in charge and supporting evidence, not just a vague, suspicious message.

Please DO NOT communicate with the people listed, and warn your friends too. As a rule of thumb, NEVER make any payments before personally checking out the location and pet.
