The Day Cleo The Cat Saved Her Owner

It’s not our Cleo, it’s another Cleo.

In July 2009, my students and I rescued a little kitten, first named Celine, and finally adopted by my friend, Jas, and renamed Cleo, after Cleopatra.

Well, it’s been 7 years now and I bumped into Jas the other day and did she have a great story to share!

“Cleo saved my life!!”, exclaimed Jas.

It was an ordinary day when Cleo detected the presence of an unwanted visitor in Jas’ garden. It was a snake.

According to Jas, Cleo whacked the snake multiple times, but that did not deter the slithery one from advancing.

Jas quickly went inside the house but she just couldn’t leave Cleo alone so she mustered all her courage, went back outside and managed to put a bucket over the slithery visitor. Then, she placed a brick on top of the bucket and called Bomba.

It took Bomba a good 45 minutes to arrive although Jas’ house is a stone’s throw from the Bomba station.

According to the firemen, it was a very poisonous snake – it was grey with black spots.

The firemen took the snake away.

Cleo sat victoriously atop the car, looking at the whole episode.

Hooray for Cleo!! She saved her owner’s life!!
