PAWS Animal Welfare Society, Petaling Jaya

It’s the end of the year and once again, the trend repeats. The number of animals being surrendered to us have increased tremendously.

We would like to share this message once again. Yes, prices may have gone up since then, but that is not a good reason to abandon your furkids.

Please think twice.

Let’s face facts. It’s nearing the end of the year now, and a lot of people are making plans for long holidays. This very unfortunately means that many people are also making plans to abandon their pets. In the past month or so, we have received surrenders of over 100 animals. Some of them are rescued strays, but a substantial portion of them are abandoned pets too. Pedigree German Shepherds, Terriers, Shih Tzus and even a Golden Retriever were all surrendered to us in the past week alone. If you are thinking of doing this as well, please reconsider. There are many alternatives out there. In Malaysia, pet boarding services are plentiful now and you can board your pets temporarily for as low as RM20 per day. If you can’t afford it, you can always ask a friend or family member to help take care of them temporarily. As a last resort, you can even use services such as PetFinder.my to look for adopters for your pets. There is always an option, if you are willing to put in the effort to find it.Please, let’s stop treating our pets like toys or objects that we can just discard when it’s no longer convenient for us. The holidays are a time for family. Don’t forget that they are a part of your family too. Please like/share this message if you agree, and help spread the word.

PAWS

PAWS was founded in 1987 by a small group of local and expatriate volunteers. Through their generosity and imagination, PAWS was constructed on a patch of land owned by Sime Plantations on the Subang Airport Road. This distinct group of sheds and a courtyard still stands today and currently homes around 400 cats and dogs.

The staff that work at PAWS include one veterinary surgeon and a number of full-time personnel. The organisation depends entirely on the generosity of the public through donations or proceeds from charitable events organized and run by volunteers.
