The Last Day Of 2016

These last few days have been hectic. I’ve been making several trips to the our mail collection point daily to check for last minute mails for those who want to submit before the 31st Dec cut-off date for our prevailing rates (RM100 per cat and RM150 per dog). Our rates will be revised as of tomorrow.

There were all sorts of problems to settle – Some had sent the photos, but their forms had not arrived. Some had posted the forms but were too busy (or had forgotten) to email the photos. Some receipts did not bear the vet’s stamp or signature. Some photos were incomplete. And everyone was hoping to still be in time for the prevailing rates, so I had to go back-and-forth with them through phonecalls, whatsapp messages and emails to help them get the documentation completed. Many decided to hand-deliver their applications just to meet the deadline. I was practically sitting at the computer most of the day, waiting for the complete documentation so that we could disburse the funds to the applicants.

There were some who thought that as long as they had posted their application before 31st Dec, they should be entitled to the old rate. No, I’m sorry, it doesn’t work this way. We have to receive the full documentation by 31st Dec 2016.

So, I’ve made my final trip to our mail collection point and paid out all claims for this year. As of tomorrow, all applications will be processed according to our revised rates, as announced a month ago:

4-rates

I looked back at our records. Here’s what we offered for the last seven-and-a-half years:

From 31st May 2009: RM80 male cats, RM100 female cats, RM100 male dogs, RM120 female dogs.

From 11th Sep 2012 – RM100 for all animals.

From 14th March 2013: RM100 for cats, RM150 for dogs.

From 1st Jan 2017: RM60 for cats, RM100 for dogs.

As explained earlier, this reduction in 2017 is due to the economic slowdown, scarcity of donations and the increasing number of applications. I do feel sad that we had to reduce our rates, but looking at our finances, it’s either we reduce the rates or AnimalCare would have to close really soon. It’s the lesser of two evils, so to speak. We also hope that applicants will understand that we have done our very best to help you through the years and will continue to do so now.

Thank you.
