STORY OF SOFTEE AND OTHER TURTLES IN THE SOUP!

In August, our team received a call for a stranded turtle on East Coast beach. Our hearts sank when we received a photo from the concerned caller, showing an Asiatic soft-shelled turtle.

The kind caller helped by bringing the turtle away from the sea water, and rinsing with fresh water. Joshua, Lucie and Reizal our rescue officers on duty rescued Softee, who passed away upon arrival.

Very often people may buy soft-shelled turtles and release them in the sea believing that they are helping them, which instead kills them.

These turtles are not allowed to be sold or kept as pets in Singapore, yet legally allowed to be sold alive for the meat trade, for which they are heavily harvested from the wild.

If you want to help Softees friends,

- Please say no to turtle soup! (even better – go on a plant-based diet!)

- Please voice your concern by writing to the AVA and also to supermarkets/wetmarkets who sell them live for the meat trade.

- Please write to outlets who serve turtle soup, sharing why you would not want to support!

- Speak up for these animals, be a catalyst and start conversations.

Our thanks to the caller Mr Sherkan for sharing and allowing us to use the video clip.
