IT’S BEEN ONE ILLEGAL PET EVERY TWO DAYS

In just 3 months from December 2018 to February 2019, ACRES has come across 25 live animals from the illegal wildlife trade in Singapore.

Most of them were abandoned: a primate from the forests of Brazil; a marsupial from Australia; a python from the sub-Saharan Africa; a threatened freshwater turtle that Singapore imports from Indonesia for the food industry; an endangered star tortoise from India; a green iguana from south America, world’s third largest tortoise species from Africa.

It is alarming at the rate these exotic wild animals are sold, kept and brought in for the illicit pet trade in Singapore.

But guess what? These are just the tip of the iceberg, an after-effect of the illegal pet trade.
