My name is Barlaro. I’m a handsome 7-year-old boy with a wonderful smile, as you can see from my pictures.

But don’t let my lovable grin fool you…I’ve been through the wringer. You’ve heard of smiling through your pain? That’s me to a “t.” I got bitten really bad, and the rest is a long story I’ll tell you in a minute. Meanwhile, would you please give a gift to Soi Dog? Just click https://bit.ly/SaveBarlaro

Because of the compassionate animal lovers who support them, Soi Dog can rescue dogs who are homeless like I was (cats, too) when we get hurt, sick, attacked by other animals, or abused by horrible humans. They offer lifesaving emergency care, a safe and comfortable place to heal, and a second chance at life, basically. I’m a pretty scrappy pup, but I might not be here today if not for them.

Before I was brought to Soi Dog, I was a temple dog. That means I sort of had a home at a temple. The monks here care about homeless animals, and were nice to me. They would give me food and let me sleep inside when they could. Lots of dogs in Thailand survive this way.

Being a temple pup is better than being homeless, but not much. I still had to compete with many other dogs who also wanted to be temple dogs.

Anyway, I was managing, just barely, when another dog got angry with me. I had wandered into his territory. I was only looking for some scraps to eat. I didn’t want any trouble, but I sure got some. The dog clamped his giant jaw onto my backside and took a great big bite!

Well, I was so shocked and scared by that, I ran off, yelping my lungs out all the way to the closest hiding place I could find – a collapsed house. I crawled under it and just laid there, bleeding and in the worst pain ever. I had no idea what to do. I could hardly move, I was hurting so much.

Fortunately for me, some humans saw all this happen. One very nice man who knew I was holed up under the house called Soi Dog. This human was smart, too…he told them to park far away so I wouldn’t get spooked. He must really know dogs, because he sure outsmarted this street-smart pup!

It took days for the humans to finally catch me. My wound had gotten infected, and maggots were eating away at it. It took Soi Dog’s most experienced animal rescue officer to capture me. I fought and tried to run away, but he still managed to get me to their hospital. When we arrived, a group of humans in orange shirts rushed over. They took one look at my wounded back and got straight to work.

I fought those people, too, because I didn’t want to be in hospital. I was really scared and just wanted to be left alone. But they managed to clean my wound and stitch me up. Unfortunately, they had to put three staples in my back – ouch! My wound was already big, and having maggots snacking on it made it bigger.

I’m now on the mend at the Soi Dog shelter. It’s going to take me a long while to heal, and it won’t be easy. But if not for all those lovely humans – especially the caring animal lovers who support Soi Dog – I might have died slowly and in agony under that rotting house.

Now I’m glad they managed to catch me, because I’m doing better. I’m eating and sleeping well, getting the ongoing medical care I need, and feeling loved. The staples are out now, thank goodness. Those humans must really care a lot about animals to go to so much trouble just for a feisty, stubborn homeless boy.

I know you’re just like those humans who helped me. You hate to see any animal suffering, and you think all animals deserve to be cared for and loved. Will you please give now and help Soi Dog always be ready to help homeless and hurting dogs and cats who have no one else? https://bit.ly/SaveBarlaro

Thank you.
