From Dr. Julian Caldecott, renowned Ecologist & Conservationist:

“The planet is currently facing a 3 part problem – climate chaos, ecological breakdown & mass extinction. If you imagine this whole process repeating over the world, you get a real grasp of the scale of how this is happening.

60% or more than half of the world’s wildlife has died out since 1970. Atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide has stayed under 200 parts per million for 800,000 years but spiked after 1950. The concentration is projected to reach 400 parts per million by 2020, and continues to rise.

The average global temperature has increased by about 1 degree over the last 10 years. Although it doesn’t seem much, it affects rainfall patterns, oceanic currents, and melting the ice caps, among other. By the 1980s, the amount of sea ice began to steadily decline, and we’re looking at zero summer sea ice by 2030. The consequences are dire – when all the ice has melted, the Arctic ocean will heat up rapidly, releasing of several trillion tonnes of methane from the seabed very quickly, inevitably causing chaos and starvation.

There are a number of ecological adaptations we can take in the face of the climate crisis, such as organic farming, new expectations of businesses, encourage governments to push for & enable change. The time for doing something for the sake of being seen to do something, is over. Now is the time to act.”
