Running An Animal Welfare Society Sounds Noble, An..

Running an animal welfare society sounds noble, and one might think that all is love, goodness and sweet stories.

The reality however, is far from that.

Just the other day, Auntie Kim received a call, where the caller made a request that the shelter takes in a mother dog and puppies the latter rescues. Those of you who have been following us for a while, would know that we are a shelter built for 200, housing 500+, with just 3 fulltime workers, and facing monthly challenges to feed the dogs and pay for medical needs. So.. Auntie Kim declined the caller and explained the Shelter’s situation. We are here to continue giving unadopted dogs a home for the rest of their lives, while trying to bring down numbers to something more manageable. We cannot take in puppies and their mothers as we are short staffed, and financially challenged.

What Auntie Kim received in response to her explanation, was a slur of insults and judgement from a woman telling her what the shelter should do.

This is unacceptable and irresponsible.

Rescuers are people who actually rescue dogs in need, care for them and find them homes; NOT try to shove responsibility onto another’s shoulder, and when failing to dump the responsibility on another, try to crush the other with nasty words.

We applaud those with kind hearts who do their best for strays and abused animals. We hope those who are feeding and neutering strays would continue to do so. There is much suffering in the world, and it does affect us. However, pushing responsibilities and hurling insults, do more harm than good. Do what you can, do your best, and let it rest. We can’t save every dog, but we will do the best for those we save, and hope that “rescuers” would do the same too.

May we also suggest that for those who want to rescue, learn from Shirley, who is an independent rescuer who’s asked us for help many times.

We help by sharing her efforts. We help by letting people know what puppies are available. We help by letting people know where she’s holding her independent adoption drive.

The last time we did a about our for Shirley was during the weekend, and 5 out of 8 puppies that she rescued received homes. There are still 3 more in need… please visit our fb page to see the 3 puppies who still need home.

And please, learn from

Shirley, be a responsible rescuer. Do your part!

Second Chance

Second Chance is a group of like-minded animal lovers who met through the Internet when they read of Aunty Kiew's plight.

They do their very best to render help whenever time permits and within their limited capacities. They hope to find good homes for as many homeless animals as possible. Currently, there are 100+ animals rescued and fostered by this group.
