Shelter Dog Spotty Learns To Do Weave Trick (Up For Adoption)

OUR SINGAPORE SPECIALS: SPOTTY (UP FOR ADOPTION)

Spotty was 6 months old when he came to us in May 2012. It’s been 8 years and he’s still patiently waiting for his forever home. 💙

He loves to play but can be fearful and is still learning how to navigate our world. He doesn’t enjoy long walks as the outside environment can cause him stress. Hence, he does enrichment activities like solving puzzle toys, nose work, positive reinforcement training, and playing fetch.

As part of his in-kennel enrichment, he has been learning to do the weave trick to help him exercise and build confidence. In the video, our volunteer dog mentors lured Spotty with high value treats to walk in between a person’s legs. For subsequent sessions, they faded the lure by repeating the hand movements without a treat — Spotty was still able to perform the simple trick and was rewarded after. They also worked on weaving in both directions.

You can see how much fun Spotty is having! With weave, we could show him that being close to humans is associated with something great. If you/someone you know is keen to adopt him, please email enquiries@spca.org.sg. He is currently not HDB-approved but may qualify for Project ADORE!
