Dog Abused During Training Session (Sign Spca's Pledge Against Cruelty)

CHOKING, HANGING AND STRANGLING OF ANIMALS: THIS NEEDS TO END

For several decades, SPCA has seen cases reporting the use of forceful and punishment-based animal training methods in Singapore, predominantly in dog training.

In a shocking 2017 case, a trainer used a pet dog’s leash to choke and hang the animal. He then strangled the animal’s neck with his hands till its eyes turned bloodshot, tongue blue, and it spluttered blood. Rachael, featured in the video, recounts what the trainer did to her beloved Vivo. This is not the first time we have received such reports and there are also other trainers propagating similarly brutal and abusive methods.

These archaic practices must end.

SPCA’s new initiative, Teach With Kindness #ChooseForceFree, aims to stamp out abusive practices used in training, raise the standards within the animal training industry, and provide support to pet guardians on animal training and behaviour. We are also renewing our call for the government to ban the electric shock collar as the device has no place in animal training.

Our position statement on animal training has been co-signed by 12 animal welfare groups, Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS), and the Singapore Veterinary Association (SVA).

Visit http://teachwithkindness.spca.org.sg to show your support by signing the ‘Animal Training Pledge’ and to find out more.

Please spread the message to help us end the cruelty!
