My name is Havilah and boy, what a journey I have been on. If you had told me a few months ago that I could become this happy with the right treatment and care, I would have told you that you were barking mad.

I lived on the streets of Thailand for a long time. I tried to stay out of trouble and mostly kept to myself. Then one day, a car hit me. They didn’t stop to check I was OK. I was in so much pain and unable to move. Someone kinder saw me struggling on the side of the road and took me to Soi Dog to get urgent medical attention.

Honestly, I didn’t know if I would ever walk again. I had an open fracture in one leg, and a dislocated hip on the other side. I also had anaemia, skin problems and parasites in my blood. Didn’t I look pitiful and defeated? I needed two surgeries, the first to amputate the leg that was irreparable, and another to mend my hip. During the weeks that followed, I made good friends with the physio team. They were so patient with me as I learnt to walk again. I always got the feeling that it was the highlight of their day to see me strut my stuff on the treadmill. 🧡

The humans say my grin is infectious, and they can’t help but smile back at me. I am so happy to be alive and am full of fun quirks. I will give you a little nudge with my head when I want cuddles and I simply love to bellow out a tuneful howl when I get excited.

You can see from the photos the enormous difference your kindness makes to homeless dogs like me. I feel and look like an entirely different dog. I was so lucky to get the care I needed.
