From shy to a shinning light.✨

Start of a brand new week, here’s something to cheer you up. #MondayMotivation As we celebrate Shy Dog Month, here is a #furrytailending of an orphaned street pup who now lives a happy life in the UK.🇬🇧

Not only was Sanika orphaned and injured as a puppy, roaming around the streets all alone, she turned out to be an extremely shy girl too as she grew up.

In fact, we really weren’t sure if Sanika would ever be able to live in a home. During one of her behaviour assessments, not only did Sanika shake in fear, she even lost control of her bladder, petrified of being away from her familiar enclosure in the shelter!🥺

Her destiny was however going to change the day, a volunteer – Courtney – came to help out at the shelter, and slowly started to fall in love with this helpless girl. Courtney saw potential in Sanika and was determined to give this extremely timid girl a chance. Even though Courtney met Sanika in June 2017, due to unavoidable circumstances, it wasn’t until November of 2108, we were able to proceed with the adoption. But, Courtney always had Sanika on her mind and strived towards in giving Sanika a home with her.

And, after spending two years and three months at the shelter, in February of 2019 Sanika flew to her new family in the UK.

We checked in with Courtney on how Sanika was doing and she shared this latest update.

“Adopting a shy dog has its challenges but the rewards outweigh the challenges. Sanika came home in February 2019, she was scared of everything, each day, week, month and year has been a celebration in how far she has come.

It started with celebrating her being comfortable in the home and initiating play with her doggo brother, now she has a constant playful pup mentality which is so rewarding to see.

Then seeing her progress to being comfortable enough to become chatty at home.

The first time we went to the beach, she got that excited that she jumped on her hind legs. She is still very shy and nervous around new people, new places and any changes but seeing her change into a confident dog when we go to the beach or to anywhere secluded is incredible. It really shows that shy dogs like Sanika can have such a for-filling life when given a chance.” 🧡

When you decide to adopt, please don’t overlook the shy, quiet, timid, nervous and sensitive dogs. Don’t let them get lost in the crowd of jumpy and happy dogs. If you don’t give them a chance, who will? Who will help them shine, if they never leave the shelter.

Please meet some of our shyer and introverted dogs available for adoptions, just like Sanika was back then: https://www.soidog.org/adopt-a-dog
