How long have you been working for?

~ I’ve been working for about 4 1/2 years now.

Could you share about your past work experience?

~ Upon graduation, I started working at a pet shop ,and then moved to a private veterinary practice. And now I’m working at SPCA Community Animal Clinic .

What motivated you the most in this industry ?

~ It definitely has to do with me being able to work with animal every day given my love/interest for and in them. Besides that, working in a shelter environment we often treat community/stray animals for various sickness/diseases. Being able to treat them and see them get better is very rewarding and it’s a satisfaction that one might not find in another career. Fortunately for me, the team I’m currently working with are all very motivated and loving people. They are the best team I’ve worked with. They always push me to better myself in any way possible.

What inspires you to be a vet nurse/tech?

~ I’m touched by each animal I see because of how they persevere no matter what they are going through at that moment. Over the years, I have seen animals in terrible condition mostly to do with being abused by a human and they still have trust for people and wants to be loved. For me, it’s an obligation to help them feel better. Whether I’m drawing blood from a patient, placing catheter in a patient or cleaning up after them, I feel like I am making a difference in said animal’s life and also the general animal welfare. I also feel like as you apply your knowledge, you’ll gain more experience and learn from those who are more experienced. It’s a career where you’ll never stop learning, growing and honing existing and new skills.

What are some of the things you enjoy?

~ dancing, learning new languages, outdoor activities, chilling with my colleagues

Share with us your most memorable experience as a vet nurse

~ It definitely got to be when we had a client who brought in his German shepherd puppy(farm dog) who had maggot falling off from his left ear. The ear was in an appalling condition as the infestation went down to his ear canal. It was awful. We had him hospitalised for 2 weeks. Every day was challenging for that little puppy and the smell was just dreadful. In the end, he got better but unfortunately his ear was deformed.
